Project Management Professional Certifications

The steps we must do to become a PMP Certification Guide and thereafter to maintain certification.

These are:

1. The first prerequisite is to have more than 4,500 of experience in project management if you have a professional diploma or 7,500 if you have high school diploma.

2.  The second prerequisite is to have training in project management or take a course that proves you 35 PDUs (professional development units).

This training may have been done or made in a university, institution or company offering Project Management courses in different modalities and time intensities. The important thing is that the entity will ensure that they give the 35 PDUs and these are recognized by PMI.

3. The third pre-requisite is to complete the implementation of the PMI to obtain a letter of permission to take the certification exam. To obtain this letter, you must enter the PMI website (www.pmi.org ) to record the experience in project management. Those who are high school graduates must log 7,500 hours in the last 60 months and for those with bachelor’s degree, 4,500 hours in the last 36 months in a linear fashion (i.e. you can not overlap the project, if you participated in two projects so simultaneously, you can only record 8 hours of work). These applications can be made online.

Note: This experience not only as a project manager, it is also possible to record time experience as a member of a project team.

4. The fourth pre-requisite is to pass the certification exam. Once your application has been accepted by the PMI, you have one year to take the exam.  The Prometric Testing Center offering this test worldwide. To schedule a test must have the approval number of PMI and request an appointment for examination on the phone 1 443 751 4995 or Web page http://www.prometric.com/PMI/default.htm .

5. The exam consists of 200 questions with duration of 4 hours. Failure to pass the exam, you can re-present (maximum of 3 times within a period of one year.)

6. Once passed the exam, PMI takes 6 to 8 weeks to send the package with the pin and certificate that identifies you as a PMP.

The validity of this certification is 3 years. After that you must keep the program through CCR (Continuing Certification Requirements) that allows you to renew for periods of 3 years. During each period, the PMP must certify 60 PDUs that are registered on the website www.pmi.org.
