This brief overview aims to show the steps so we can get certification as a Project Manager Professional (PMP).
Step1. – Confirm that you meet the requirements requested by the PMI
•  5 years (7,500 hours) in management and administration of projects in the last 8 years.
•  35 hours of formal training in project management.
•  Have a Bachelor’s degree or higher.
•  3 years (4.500 hours) in management and administration of projects in the last 8 years.
Step2. – Register with the PMI as a member
Step3. – Fill out the information for the application
Fill out the information that corresponds to the application for certification as a PMP, personal data, qualifications, training hours and hours of projects where you have led, information here is self-sum and is presented with the 9 areas of knowledge. Select the larger and longer projects; otherwise work will have enough time to complete all information. Have to consider that do not serve simultaneous projects, i.e. not allowing the overlap of projects, e.g.: If you work in 3 months to 4 projects at once are 12 months of project management or not, just 3 months. Another thing is that if you send the information to the PMI, it must be submitted in English.
Step4. – Wait for response
This is the step where we wait until we get what is called the “letter of eligibility” is the enabling document that allows us to introduce the PMP Certification Exam. If you do not receive notification for the audit can proceed to the next step, otherwise follow the instructions to submit all supporting information (Titles, supporting, hours of project residence address.
Step5. – Approval and Payment
If you receive a letter of eligibility, log into your profile www.pmi.org and you will have a date that is a period of one year to schedule your exam (That is the validity of your information.).
At this point you have 2 options:
1st. - Take a test called Paper based Testing (PBT)
2nd .- Take the test Computer-based testing (CBT)Â find a center near to your place, considering that it can be 48 hours in advance and prepare cases for going for the exam.
Step6. – Examination
Once the payment is processed you will receive an email with a notice telling you the time, date and place. Well, now is the moment of truth. You will face a test of 200 questions and 4 hours of time to resolve, I recommend you review the previous recommendations to introduce the test.
To attend the event need 2 qualifying documents, remember that this is mandatory and would carry no grounds to not allow you to take the exam.
You cannot bring material to support the review; the site will provide sheets, calculator, and pencil. You could take a simple calculator (4 operations), and earplugs.
For courses you can consult many consultancies where they keep a good and varied portfolio of seminars and even rewarded by the PMI and receive support of the PMI Project Management Professional Certification to be an authorized education (REP)
